Korean Class Establishment 지원 사업

IKEN의 중점 사업은 미국 K–12 학교 현장에서 한국어반이 새롭게 개설되고 안정적으로 정착할 수 있도록 지원하는 일입니다. 이를 위해 학교와 교육청을 대상으로 한국어 프로그램 개설의 필요성과 가능성을 설명하고, 수업 모형, 운영 사례, 교사 확보, 학부모 수요, 행정 절차 등에 관한 실질적인 정보를 제공하고 있습니다.

특히 최근에는 초중고 이중언어 프로그램과 7–12학년 한국어 과정 확대에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있어, 학교별 여건에 맞는 맞춤형 자문과 자료 제공의 중요성이 더욱 커지고 있습니다. IKEN은 앞으로도 교육원과 협력하여 더 많은 학교에서 한국어반이 신설되고 확장될 수 있도록 현장 중심의 지원 체계를 강화해 나가고자 합니다.

2026년 신설될 예정인 학교와 프로그램은 다음과 같습니다.

애나하임 교육국의 Lexington Jr. High School (2026-2027),
Walker Jr. High KDIP program (2026-2027).

2026년에 가능성 타진이나 논의를 시작할 학교나 학군:

Torrance USD 에 중학교나 초등학교 KDIP,
Cypress Elementary SD 에 KDIP,
Norwalk La Mirada USD 의 Eastwood Elem KDIP

IKEN’s key initiatives include supporting the establishment and long-term sustainability of Korean language programs in U.S. K–12 schools. To this end, IKEN provides schools and school districts with practical guidance on the need for and feasibility of Korean language programs, including instructional models, implementation examples, teacher recruitment, parent demand, and administrative procedures.

In particular, interest has been growing in Korean dual-language immersion programs and in expanding Korean courses for grades 7–12. As a result, the importance of tailored consultation and resource support based on each school’s local conditions has become even greater. IKEN hopes to continue strengthening a field-based support system in cooperation with the Korean Education Center so that more schools can establish and expand Korean language programs.

The schools and programs currently expected to launch in 2026 are as follows:

Lexington Junior High School, Anaheim Union High School District (2026–2027)
Walker Junior High School KDIP Program (2026–2027)
